Climate education in Helsinki

The Education Division strengthens the climate skills of students of all ages. Climate education begins in early childhood education, where the effects of climate change are studied with the help of fox characters. For example, the children learn about climate-friendly food with the Chef Fox and read children’s books about the climate with the Story Fox. The FOX model will be extended to basic education during 2024, and the pupils will read stories about Asia and Africa together with Tibetan Fox and Desert Fox.

In basic education, climate change mitigation will also be discussed from the point of view of circular economy expertise. In upper secondary education, general upper secondary schools offer, for example, courses on carbon-neutral Helsinki, and Stadin AO, Helsinki Vocational College and Adult Institute, will extend its climate friendly activities to all fields.
